    7th Srinivasa Ramanujan Mathematics Contest Award Ceremony

    The Srinivasa Ramanujan Trust, Mauritius and the University of Mauritius held an Award Ceremony for the 7th Srinivasa Ramanujan Mathematics Contest on June 8.

    The aim of the annual contest was to promote excellence in mathematics, especially pure mathematics, among young mathematicians in Mauritius by popularising the work of the genius Ramanujan (22 December 1887 – 26 April 1920) who was largely self-taught and is widely recognised as one of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th century.

    His Excellency, Mr Prithvirajsing ROOPUN, G.C.S.K, President of the Republic of Mauritius graced the event by his presence as Chief Guest along with Mr Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory, Former Vice-President of Mauritius.

    The award function was an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of all the participants and acknowledge the winners.

    A Memorial Lecture entitled “Mathematical discovery and mathematical contest” was also delivered by Professor Tianxin Cai, Department of Mathematics of the Zhejiang University, Hangzhou of China.

    The 2023 Ramanujan Contest’s Organising Committee was led by Dr P Gonpot followed by Dr. Y Tangman, Dr N Thakoor, Dr Sookia, Dr R Boojhawon, Dr A Gopaul, and Dr. J Cheeneebash from the Faculty of Science.
